Karl Urban will star as Billy Butcher in Amazon’s superhero series The Boys. Urban has played multiple roles in films such as: Lord of the Rings (Eomer), Thor: Ragnarok (Skurge), Star Trek (Dr. Leonard McCoy “Bones”) as well as others. He has also played in television shows like: Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and most recently FOX’s Almost Human.
Urban’s character (Butcher) is described as both mysterious and brutal with his own secret agenda. He is also the leader of the group The Boys. When he approaches Hughie (Jack Quaid) he takes advantage of the fact that he is upset about his girlfriend’s accidental death by Superhero A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). He enlists Hughie (as well as the rest of the team) with the backing of the CIA to help him bring down corrupt superheroes.Butcher is also a former Royal Marine that grew up in the East End of London. He enjoys killing superheroes by using extreme violence.
Outside of Quaid, and Usher Urban will be joining: Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, and Karen Fukuhara. Eric Kripke (Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator) will be the showrunner and will also executive produce the series. He is joined by: Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (who are also set to direct the pilot), Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Jason Netter, Ken Levin, and James Weaver. Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson (the writers for the comic book) will co-executive produce.
