According to Comicbook.com, Karl Urban (Star Trek) has offered fans a glimpse into the production of The Boys‘ fifth and final season by sharing a new on-set image. The actor, known for his portrayal of Billy Butcher, took to Instagram to post a selfie during production.
Season five has attracted considerable attention, thanks in part to high-profile casting developments. Comicbook.com reports that in September, Hamilton‘s Daveed Diggs (Blindspotting, Wonder) joined the series in an undisclosed role, while Stranger Things actor Mason Dye (Bosch, Teen Wolf) was cast as Bombsight, a long-established supe. Additionally, Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) is set to return as Soldier Boy, now a series regular, following his brief season four cameo. His presence is expected to bring significant developments due to his fraught connections with both Butcher and Homelander. Further fueling excitement, Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) has confirmed his involvement, though details of his character remain unknown.
The events of of the fourth season left Butcher in a precarious state, both physically and emotionally. With only a limited time left due to the consequences of Temp V exposure, and after losing his leadership position within The Boys, his journey is nearing its final act. Meanwhile, Homelander, played by Antony Starr (Outrageous Fortune), has effectively taken control of America, setting the stage for an intense power struggle. Season four also delved into Butcher’s psychological turmoil, including haunting visions of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s (Watchmen, The Walking Dead) Joe Kessler, an element that is expected to persist in the upcoming season.
As The Boys approaches its conclusion, the franchise continues to expand with multiple spin-offs. The college-focused Gen V series moves into its second season, while two additional projects are in development. The Boys: Mexico, led by Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle), and Vought Rising, a prequel series.
