The CW’s Charmed will have a new guest in its upcoming fourth season. Actor Kapil Talwalkar, best known for his role on NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, will join the reboot series in a recurring role, via Variety. Talwalkar is set to play a character that has its origins from Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
According to Variety, Talwalkar will portray Dev, a handsome “Gandharva” with the power to influence others with his voice. In the Indian culture, a “Gandharva” is known as a celestial or mystical being with special powers. The male beings exude their power through singing, while the female versions exhibit their abilities as divine dancers.
Talwalkar joins Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station, The Cobbler) and Sarah Jeffery (Daphne and Velma, Be Somebody) who portray two-thirds of Charmed’s “power of three.” The duo will be joined by another new face when Lucy Barrett (Emo the Musical, Bloom) debuts in the fourth season. Barrett replaces original half-sister, Macy, played by Madeleine Mantock (Into the Badlands, Breaking Brooklyn), who departed the series at the end of the third season.
Charmed is based on the 1998 original series of the same name which followed three bewitched sisters juggling life, love, and evil forces in San Francisco. The original series starred Shannen Doherty (Beverly Hills, 90210, Friends Til’ the End), Alyssia Milano (Who’s the Boss, Commando), and Holly Marie Combs (Pretty Little Liars, Picket Fences) as the Halliwell sisters. Later in the series, Dohtery departed the show making way for Rose McGown (Jawbreaker, Planet Terror) to join. The series also co-starred Brian Krause (Sleepwalkers, Return to the Blue Lagoon) and Julian McMahon (nip/tuck, Fantastic Four). The series ran for eight seasons.
Season four will be helmed by showrunners Jeffrey Lieber (Miami Medical), Joey Falco (Heroes: Godsend), and Nicki Renna (Grand Hotel), according to Variety. CBS Studios produces in conjunction with Propagate Content.
