In an article by Variety, it is reported that Kali Reis (True Detective, Asphalt City) will now be starring alongside Anthony Mackie (Twisted Metal, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) in Apple TV+’s upcoming international crime drama 12 12 12.
According to Variety, the logline for the heist drama claims the story unfolds as “three propulsive timelines of a heist: the 12 months of planning, the 12 hours of the heist, and the 12 days following the heist. The series follows a disgraced FBI agent (Anthony Mackie) and an American career criminal (Jamie Dornan) who play a zero-sum game of cat and mouse across Europe. At the center of it all is the daring, epic raid on a bank vault deep beneath the streets of Zurich.”
Deadline reports that 12 12 12 is created, written, and executive produced by Dudi Appleton (Frankenstein, The Most Fertile Man In Ireland) and Jim Keeble (Wild Bill, Throne: Scaredycat). The series is reportedly set to be filmed in Hungary.
Reis most notably appeared in the recent season of HBO’s dark psychological crime thriller True Detective: Night Country. The show received nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award. She played a strong female role who knew her way around hand-to-hand combat. This shouldn’t be a surprise as she began her career as not an actress, but a professional boxer. According to BoxRec, she fought in the super-lightweight division with a record of 19 wins, 5 by KO, and 7 losses. She won her last six fights before she went all in on acting. It’s safe to say that her action scenes on screen are more skill than camera magic.
Reis, a member of the Seaconke Wampanoag Tribe, is a highly outspoken activist and “passionate advocate for indigenous rights,” according to her Instagram profile. In a write up on WomanBoxing, it claims she even has incorporated her native name, which was given to her by her mother, “K.O. Mequinonoag,” as her boxing moniker. It translates as “many feathers,” or “many talents.” Being a critically acclaimed actress, professional boxer, and indigenous rights activist definitely lends credibility to her nickname.
