Justin Theroux has been cast in a leading role in HBO’s the Leftovers pilot, according to Deadline. Based on the 2011 novel by Tom Perrotta, the Leftovers tells the story of the people left behind after the Rapture takes place, focusing on those “who didn’t make the cut.”
Theroux’s character is police chief and father Kevin Garvey, who is attempting to maintain a sense of normalcy in a world where doing so has become increasingly difficult.
The pilot was co-written by Perrotta and Damon Lindelof (LOST), both of whom will serve as executive producers on the show. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) is slated to direct.
Theroux’s previous credits include Six Feet Under and Sex and the City.
