Quibi has announced that it will be adding a new series titled Gloop World to its lineup. The series will be produced by Justin Roiland of Rick and Morty and the team behind Robot Chicken, Stoopid Buddy Studios.
Gloop World, which will be a claymation-style animated show, follows the story of Bob Roundy and Funzy, two anthropomorphic blobs who also happen to be roommates. The two blobs will travel on adventures around the titular Gloop World made entirely of clay.
In a statement, Roiland explained how the claymation series was something that he was particularly excited to pursue. “Gloop World has been a dream of mine to make for almost seven years,” said Roiland. “A tactile clay animation show with a mysterious, weird, and expansive world and really fun characters, fingerprints and all. I couldn’t have done this without the folks at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, who understood exactly what I meant when I wanted the clay animation to have an imperfect approach, where you can see the animators in the work. I want the Gloop characters to feel like you can reach into your phone and grab them yourself. Can’t wait to share this weird silly show with the world.”
In addition to Roiland, Gloop World was developed by Robot Chicken executive producers Eric Towner and John Harvatine IV. Harvatine also serves as the director of the series, and has expressed his enthusiasm for the claymation project. “Ever since I first saw Gumby, I was fascinated with clay as a medium,” Harvatine explained. “Gloop World is funny, and it’s innovative, and Quibi is the perfect home for this show.”
Quibi, the upcoming streaming platform from the mind of Jeffrey Katzenberg, is set to launch on April 6th. The platform will feature a variety of short-form series, including an animated series from 50 Cent and a gaming thriller from Ridley Scott.
