Apple TV+ just announced their most recent addition to the second season of the Emmy-award winning show The Morning Show as The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies (Ghost Ship), according to The Hollywood Reporter. She will play the role of Laura Peterson, a news anchor at UBA network.
Alongside previously announced new additions to season two, Margulies will join Greta Lee (Russian Doll) and Ruairi O’Connor (The Spanish Princess) as series regulars and Hasan Minhaj (Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj) as a guest star. Jennifer Aniston (Friends), Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies), Steve Carell (The Office), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Mark Duplass (The Puffy Chair), Nestor Carbonell (Lost), and Karen Pittman (The Americans) will be reprising their roles from last season.
The drama series follows the lives of those who anchor and run an American morning show, beginning with Alex Levy, played by Aniston, Mitch Keller, played by Carell, and Bradley Jackson, played by Witherspoon. Margulies’ most recognized credits include her role on CBS’ The Good Wife, Showtime’s Billions, and National Geographic’s The Hot Zone.
The show’s past season concluded on a cliffhanger, with the network shutting down just as anchors Alex and Bradley were beginning to reveal their misogynistic workplace culture, filled beginning with their coverup of former anchor Mitch’s past wrongdoings, stating, “The abuse of power, corporate corruption, it has to end. We cannot accept a culture of silence,” via The Hollywood Reporter. The second season of The Morning Show has been described as “a huge building [falling] on everybody and it’s about escaping from the wreckage,” as showrunner Kerry Ehrin (Bates Motel) tells The Hollywood Reporter.
