A new true-crime limited series is coming to NBC’s streaming service. According to TVLine, Peacock has released the trailer for the star-studded Dr. Death, an adaptation of the Wondery podcast about the real-life chase to stop a killer surgeon. Watch the trailer below:
According to TVLine, the series stars Joshua Jackson (The Affair, Little Fires Everywhere) as Dr. Christopher Duntsch. Duntsch was a new neurosurgeon in the Dallas area, specializing in surgeries to repair nominal spinal issues. Despite his remarkable good looks, charismatic personality, and impeccable medical record, Duntsch drew suspicion as more and more of his patients left his operating room permanently damaged or deceased. The series will follow the lengthy investigation it took to bring down Duntsch and fight a healthcare system that protected his unique form of malpractice.
TVLine reports Alec Baldwin (30 Rock, Beetlejuice) and Christian Slater (Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, Mr. Robot) co-star as the two physicians who championed to end Duntsch’s reign of terror. Baldwin will portray neurosurgeon Robert Henderson and Slater will play vascular surgeon Randall Kirby. In the trailer, the two are shown in several conversations with each other and fellow colleagues regarding the unfortunate pattern Duntsch has acted out with his surgeries. At one moment Baldwin’s Henderson relays “He’s either the most incompetent surgeon I’ve crossed paths with, or he’s a sociopath.” The two are assisted by local prosecutor Michelle Shughart played by AnnaSophia Robb (The Carrie Diaries, Bridge to Terabithia).
According to TVLine, the series also stars Kelsey Grammer (Fraiser, Boss), Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot, Good Girls Revolt). Carrie Preston (Claws, The Good Fight), and Zabryna Guevera (Snowfall, New Amsterdam). Jackson was cast as Duntsch after the original lead, Jamie Dornan (The Fall, Fifty Shades Free), had to drop out due to COVID-19-related schedule conflicts.
Dr. Death premieres this summer exclusively on Peacock.
