Deadline has reported in an exclusive that American actor Josh Lucas (Palm Royale, Long Slow Exhale) will join the cast of Paramount+ and A24 upcoming legal thriller Discretion. Alongside Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!, To Die For) and Elle Fanning (Super 8, Predator: Badlands), Lucas will star in the series opposite the two as a title character.
Based on the eponymous short story by Chandler Baker (Oh. What. Fun., Cutting Teeth), Deadline reports that Discretion first gained attention for Paramount’s straight-to-series order, as the series was the network’s first buy post-Skydance acquisition.
Based on the series’ logline, via Variety:
“Lenny (Fanning), a summer associate at a prestigious Dallas law firm, uncovers a web of NDAs masking a dark truth. When she realizes she signed the same agreement, her discoveries put her in the crosshairs of the firm’s most powerful female partner Sharon (Kidman) – upending their mentor-protégé dynamic and raising the question: who gets to keep secrets, and at what cost?”
Lucas will reportedly play the role of Greg, the husband to Kidman’s character Sharon. Per Deadline, Greg is “a lawyer and the husband of Kidman’s powerful and formidable corporate law partner at the same prestigious firm entangled in a dark web of NDAs.”
As listed by Deadline, Baker is credited as writer and executive producer, along with; Susannah Grant (The 5th Wave, Unbelievable), Cut To’s Joe Hipps (Counterpart, House of Cards), Linden Entertainment’s Jordan Cerf (Judgement, Heroes: Eclipsed), Per Saari (Big Little Lies, Trespass) and series star Kidman under Blossom Films, and Dakota (War of the Worlds, I Am Sam) and series star Elle Fanning with Brittany Kahan Ward (All the Bright PLaces, Margo’s Got Money Troubles) under Lewellen Pictures.
Known for his roles in American Psycho, Sweet Home Alabama, Yellowstone, and The Lincoln Lawyer, Lucas can most recently be seen in Apple TV’s Palm Royale, starring opposite Kristen Wiig (Downsizing, The Martian). As stated by Deadline, he’ll make another appearance in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Western action thriller The Rescue. Lucas is represented by Liebman Entertainment and WME.
