The Punisher alum Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Bear, Fury) has somewhat confirmed the rumors about his possible comeback in Marvel Studios for the new series Daredevil: Born Again with a reunion picture alongside co-stars Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, The Defenders, Escape Room) and Charlie Cox (Kin, Echo, The Defenders), Comicbook.com reports. The picture in question was shared on Wednesday afternoon via his own Instagram, which shows him sitting with the two actors in the New York restaurant where the series has been seen filming recently.

According to Comicbook.com, the character Frank Castle in Marvel’s The Punisher is beloved by fans alongside Vincent D’Onofrio’s (Echo, Hawkeye, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) Kingpin and Cox’s Daredevil. Although Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed anything, Bernthal’s post instills hope for fans who were wanting him to return to the Marvel “Defendersverse.”
Bernthal was last seen as Frank Castle five years ago, according to Comicbook.com, in the second season of Netflix’s The Punisher. However, the actor has always expressed his will to come back and portray this character again, such as in an exclusive interview with Collider from January where he explained why he loves this character.
“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has,” Bernthal shared, via Comicbook.com. “In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply. I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”
The first two seasons of The Punisher are available on Netflix now, and Daredevil: Born Again does not have a release date yet.
