John Wick the movie has a television show in the works called, The Continental. Starz announced the show during the TCA winter press tour. Keanu Reeves (the actor that plays John Wick in the movie series) is expected to make an appearance in the potential television show; however, he will not be the lead actor in it.
The show will be set in the John Wick universe and will focus on the Continental Hotel. It will explore the inner workings of the hotel. The hotel itself is supposed to be a safe haven for assassins.
The showrunner for the show will be Chris Collins (The Man in the High Castle, The Wire). He will also double up and serve as a script writer. Even though Reeves will not play a pivotal role on the screen itself, he will work as a co-executive producer along with: original franchise screenwriter Derek Kolstad, the co-director of the original movie David Leitch, Basil Iwanyk, and Chad Stahelski. Stahelski was the director for the first two films and will be the director for the third movie. He will also direct the premiere episode for The Continental if the script moves forward.
Chris Albrecht, Starz CEO, said, “This series is truly unlike anything else on TV. The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introduce some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.”
This became possible when Starz bought Lionsgate. There has been no word of a possible release date, but the third John Wick movie is expected to air in 2019.
