The John Wick franchise has been a huge success, having been well-recognized around the world. The movie series is known for its action-packed fight sequences, humor, and storytelling. According to John Wick director Chad Stahelski (The Day Shift) via CBR, they plan to explore the Wick universe in two new series. Stahleski discussed the potential live-action TV show and anime series on The Playlists’s The Discourse Podcast.
According to CBR, Stahelski revealed the TV show would “explore The High Table,” the shadow syndicate operating Wick’s world of assassins. The narrative would be separate from Peacock’s The Continental: From the World of John Wick miniseries. Stahelski envisions exploring different characters recently introduced in the latest franchise’s sequel.
“Yeah, I love Donnie [Yen], I love Rina [Sawayama], love the Tracker (Shamier Anderson), and the TV show and the ancillaries will give us a chance to expand the kind of fun world we’ve created,” Stahelski stated via CBR adding, “I think TV is a better format for that, I think because people can jump into the backgrounds, you don’t have to spend so much time with the first act set up and all that.”
Stahelski also explained how the anime medium allows them “to create all the cool stories that anime could achieve better than we could and the TV show to expand our world, we’ll still get our fix, you know what I mean? And we’ll still have all the fun.”
While Stahelski will be at the helm for these two projects, he explained how he wasn’t able to be wholly involved with The Continental.
“It was very early in ‘John Wick 4,’ so we showed them some of our concepts. And then, honestly? [My team and I] had very, very, very little to do with it other than helping that creative team look inside our little world, and we gave them a little tour of how we do things, and then they took it and made it their own so that was a separate creative team,” Stahleski said according to CBR.
According to CBR, Lionsgate announced a new Wick film this year, however, Stahelski confirmed we won’t see the stoic assassin for a while. Stahelski will be busy with adapting PlayStation’s Ghost of Tsushima for the big screen.
All the John Wick films and The Continental: From the World of John Wick limited series are available to stream on Peacock.
