This past Friday, Full House star John Stamos (Big Shot, You) took to Instagram to celebrate late costar and comedian, Bob Saget (America’s Funniest Home Videos, How I Met Your Mother) on what would have been his 68th birthday. According to TVLine, Stamos shared a never-before-seen photo of him with his sitcom family and a message for Saget who died unexpectedly two years ago. View the photo below.
The picture was taken the day of Saget’s memorial service and includes Full House cast members Jodie Sweetin (The Jane Mysteries, Hollywood Darlings), Candace Cameron Bure (Unsung Hero, No One Would Tell), Dave Coulier (The Thirteenth Year, Out of Control), Scott Weinger (Aladdin, Shredder), and sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (It Takes Two, Passport to Paris). The Tanner family was joined by series creator Jeff Franklin (Love Stinks, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper). TVLine reports Stamos left a heartfelt message in the IG post.
“Happy Birthday, Bob,” Stamos wrote. “This was taken as we gathered for his funeral. “Though Bob wasn’t there physically, his spirit was unmistakably present, wrapping us in warmth and shared memories that drew both laughter and tears.”
According to TVLine, Stamos described Saget as the heart of the TV family and how “His legacy of kindness and compassion was evident in the faces around me… in the gentle ways we supported one another, echoing the love he always extended. We celebrated a life that was a true gift to us all.”
While Full House ran for eight seasons in the 1990s, the cast reunited for a revival series, 2016’s Fuller House, for Netflix that aired for five seasons. Although the Olsens did not reprise their roles as the youngest sister, Michelle Tanner, TVLine reports they did appear in the Netflix tribute special Dirty Daddy: The Bob Saget Tribute in 2022.
Saget, who played patriarch Danny Tanner in the ABC sitcom, died on January 9, 2022, from accidental head trauma in a Florida hotel. The actor was in the middle of a comedy tour at the time of his passing. Saget left behind a wife and three children.
