The Boyz n the Hood’s director and the hip-hop mogul are developing the drama Club Life: Miami.
John Singleton, Boyz n the Hood’s writer, director and producer, is teaming up with Russell Simmons. The duo will be developing a drama project for HBO called Club Life: Miami. The series is set against the South Beach club scene and follows a reformed criminal who moves to Miami and gains a new lease on life as he embraces the vibrant, youthful and transgressive world.
Singleton will write and executive produce the project and Simmons will also executive produce the TV series via his overall deal with the premium cable network.
Club Life: Miami is the second sale Singleton makes at HBO since he signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO in May. The director recently teamed up with director Steve McQueen, with World War Z co-writer Matthew Michael Carnahan, and the Oscar-winning producers of The King’s Speech, to develop a drama project. The untitled series has been described as an exploration of a young African American man’s experience entering New York high society, with a past that may not be what it seems.
