Actor John Capodice (The West Wing, Six Feet Under), celebrated for his roles in Ryan’s Hope, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, General Hospital and Seinfeld, passed away on December 30 at the age of 83. According to Deadline, the news was shared by the New Jersey-based Pizzi Funeral Home, though no cause of death was provided in the announcement.
Born on December 25, 1941, Capodice built an impressive career as a character actor, becoming a recognizable presence across television, film and theater. His early breakthrough came in the late 1970s when he joined the ABC soap opera Ryan’s Hope as Lloyd Lord. Over the years, he added a variety of memorable roles to his résumé, including his portrayal of a detective in the 1994 comedy hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and his recurring role as Carmine Cerullo on General Hospital throughout the 1990s.
Capodice also made his mark in numerous beloved television shows. Fans of Seinfeld might remember him from the 1991 episode titled “The Revenge,” where he played a laundromat owner. He also appeared in acclaimed series such as The West Wing, Six Feet Under and Law & Order. Beyond television and film, Capodice showcased his talent on stage in various theater productions and continued to lend his voice to projects well into 2023.
In their tribute, the funeral home described Capodice as “a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.” Outside of his acting career, he served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966, including a deployment in Korea. He was also an active member of the Blauvelt Sons of Italy Rockland Lodge 2176, reflecting his deep connection to his heritage and community.
Capodice is survived by his wife, Jane, along with their two children and four grandchildren.
