In a Deadline exclusive article, HBO shared an update on Steve Carrell’s new untitled comedy show. Fans got excited as it was revealed John C. McGinley (Stan Against Evil) will be joining the cast.
Not only is the show filled with an exciting cast but we’ll see a few reunions as well. McGinley is once again working with Bill Lawrence (Bad Monkey) and Matt Tarses (Mad Love). The trio worked together for the hit comedy show Scrubs that ran from 2001-2010. The show followed a group of medical students learning the difficulties of health care through an emergency room. McGinley starred as the fan favorite Dr. Perry Cox. Lawrence was the executive producer and creator, who worked with Tares that wrote and co-executive produced for the show. The pair will be back yet again to write on Carell’s comedy.
Following the cast list, audiences will also see Charly Clive (All My Friends Hate Me), Danielle Deadwyler (Station Eleven) and Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso). The show will feature a single camera, following a more pov style comedy. Although the fans don’t know the title yet, they did get some information on the plot. The series will focus on a college campus that settles on Carell who plays an author, and has a strained relationship with his daughter. The show will navigate how the father and daughter go about their relationship. McGinley will portray Walter Mann, who is the President of the University.
Adding to the list, fans noticed a few familiar faces when it came to producers. In addition to headlining the television series, audiences will see Carell join the executive producers list. Joining Carell in executive producers roles are, Tares, Lawrence, Jeff Ingold (Whiskey Caviar), and Liza Katzer (Ted Lasso). The show is highly anticipated amongst fans– as Carell’s comedies are always highly ranked. Tune into HBO for updates on the show.
