Big news coming out of the CW headquarters as of late. First,Wentworth Miller signed a new contract with The CW to play a series regular across all DC comic based shows, then it was announced that Supergirl will play the entire first season that originally played on CBS, and now John Barrowman has signed a very similar contract with the network as Miller.
Back in May, MXDWN reported that after Miller’s short term appearance on Legends Of Tomorrow, he had signed a contract to become a series regular for all Greg Berlanti/Warner Bros. TV-produced DC Comics. The news of this groundbreaking contract came after the death of Miller’s character on Legends Of Tomorrow but would allow him the possibility of reprising his role throughout The CW/DC worlds.
On the heels of Miller’s contract negotiations, it was announced earlier today that TVLine learned exclusively that John Barrowman recently signed a similar deal as Miller. Barrowman, who plays Malcolm Merlyn and the Dark Archer on Arrow, will now be a regular character among all Greg Berlanti’s CW shows.
The deals both Miller and Barrowman signed doesn’t mean they will be in every DC show the network has but it does give them the option to move around between the shows. This means they could play a story out on The Flash or Legends of Tomorrow, or they could bounce over to Arrow or possibly even Supergirl for a new story arc.
The possibilities are endless!
Barrowman is already familiar with bouncing between shows and spinoffs. Having started in the Doctor Who world as Captain Jack Harkness, he eventually got his own spinoff for BBC America’s Torchwood. Barrowman is also familiar with working between CW shows, he has played characters in Arrow, The Flash and the CW’s period inspired drama Reign, where he played the role of a Scottish clan leader.
There is no word yet as to how either Barrowman or Miller will first appear on a show after signing these new deals but it does let viewers theorize as to how these deals will affect the storylines and crossovers. It’s similar to leaving a character’s fate in limbo but knowing they are coming back somehow.
Barrowman should be familiar with that feeling as his role of Harkness often led to him being killed only to resuscitate again moments later. His new contract is a bit like Harkness’s ability to come back to life!
