Scandal‘s Emmy winning co-star Joe Morton will join Brandon Micheal Hall as a co-star in CBS drama pilot God Friended Me. Hall will play as Miles, while Morton will be Reverend Arthur Finer (Miles’ father). Morton’s character is a thoughtful and intelligent man. He has been the Reverend of Trinity Church for the past twenty-five years. Even though Miles has a strong rejection of his faith, his father wants him back in his life.
Morton will also be joining: Suraj Sharma and Javicia Leslie. The series itself is about an outspoken atheist named Miles, whose life is turned upside down when he is “friended” by God on Facebook. Unwittingly, he becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him.
Morton has played multiple roles in his acting career. Currently, he is wrapping up the final season in ABC’s Scandal. This is where he won an Emmy for his role as Rowan Pope. He has also played in: Terminator 2, Speed, The Brother From Another Planet, and has made an appearance on Justice League.
The series is written by co-creators Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt (the Alcatraz duo). The director of the series is Marcos Siega. Lilien and Wynbrandt will executive produce, God Friended Me, with Siega, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter. Each episode of the show is expected to be an hour long.
