This may or may not land the actor in some hot water.
Game of Thrones is ultra-secretive about the details of their characters, storylines, you name it. Which makes sense, considering the series is dealing with some of the heaviest fan obsession in the last few years. However, some things just slip out. At least if you’re Jim Broadbent, that is.
Indiewire just reported that Broadbent finally opened up about his role in the upcoming seventh season. Apparently, Broadbent was the subject of an interview from ScreenCrush, and when Game of Thrones came up, he immediately said he couldn’t say anything. Shortly after that declaration, Broadbent said, “I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character.”
It doesn’t take much for a viewer to deduce that Broadbent will be interacting with John Bradley’s character, Samwell Tarly, who arrived at the Citadel at the end of season six. A giant library seems like a perfect place to run into an “old professor character.”
Broadbent also went on to say he performed in five episodes, also noting, “I did sort of one major scene in each episode.” He also disclosed that his scenes did involve Samwell Tarley, and his remarks have made some diehard fans believe that Broadbent could be playing Maester Marwyn, who plays an important role in the Game of Thrones novels.
However, it’s all hearsay for now. We still don’t have a release date for season seven yet, but perhaps this news is enough to keep our nerdy selves busy in the meantime.
