It looks like Netflix’s upcoming Iron Fist is going to be a bit of a Game of Thrones reunion. This week Jessica Henwick, who plays Nymeria Sand on Game of Thrones, was cast as Colleen Wing in the fourth installation of Netflix’s Defenders project, Marvel’s official website reports. Henwick joins fellow GoT star Finn Jones (Ser Loras Tyrell) who was recently cast as Danny Rand/Iron Fist.
When Jones was cast as Rand, the announcement just about broke Twitter. For more on that, mxdwn has the story here.
In Iron Fist, Henwick will play Colleen Wing, a fan-favorite character from the comics who is also a martial arts master and owns her own dojo. After Rand returns to New York City, Wing will become an invaluable ally for Iron Fist.
About the casting announcement, Executive Producer and Showrunner, Scott Buck said,“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing. She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
“Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character,” added Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television. “And as anyone who’s seen her in Game of Thrones can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing.”
Iron Fist will follow the story of Daniel Rand who, when he is 9 years old, gets trapped in a mysterious Himalayan village where he learns martial arts and the powers of the Iron Fist. The series will open with the return of Rand to New York City after he has been missing for many years. Since all the other Defenders are in New York, it makes sense that Rand would have to also be in the same city. In the city, he uses his martial arts master and powers of the Iron Fist to fight crime.
Marvel Television produces Iron Fist for Netflix in association with ABC Studios.
