Jessica Capshaw Joins Cast Of ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ As Series Regular

According to Deadline, Jessica Capshaw (Grey’s AnatomyDear Zoe) has officially joined the cast of 9-1-1: Nashville, the newest installment in Ryan Murphy’s expansive 9-1-1 franchise. The Grey’s Anatomy alum will star opposite Chris O’Donnell (NCIS: Los AngelesBatman & Robin) in the upcoming ABC drama, which was given a straight-to-series order earlier this year.

Deadline reports that Capshaw will play the wife of O’Donnell’s character, Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged firehouse leader and former rodeo star,and the mother of the show’s lead, a character named Ryan who has not yet been cast.Captain Sharpe is described as a rugged fire captain and rodeo star who oversees Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his son by his side. While he’s presented as a devoted family man, the character is also said to harbor secrets that will likely play into the show’s core dramatic storyline.

9-1-1: Nashville is being developed by 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Television, and is set to premiere during the 2025-26 season on ABC. The series comes from Ryan Murphy (American Horror StoryGlee) and longtime collaborators Tim Minear (9-1-19-1-1: Lone Star) and Rashad Raisani (9-1-1: Lone Star, Burn Notice), with Brad Falchuk (American Horror StoryPose) and Angela Bassett (9-1-1Black Panther) also on board as executive producers.

Deadline states that the spin-off joins the flagship 9-1-1 series, which made the move from Fox to ABC in 2023. It also follows the cancellation of 9-1-1: Lone Star, which ended after five seasons earlier this year.

While Capshaw is best known for her role as Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey’s Anatomy, where she appeared from seasons five through 14, she has also recently starred in Hulu’s Tell Me Lies. Additionally, she has several film credits under her belt, including Holidate, Minority Report and the upcoming independent comedy, Miracle on 74th Street.

No official release date has been announced for 9-1-1: Nashville, but Deadline reports that more casting news is expected as production moves forward.
