You may have thought back in 2012 that you had seen the last of the Jersey Shore gang, but it looks like viewers will be able to relive the cast members crazy antics soon. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Friday that a Jersey Shore reunion is in the works, though it will not be on their home network MTV. Instead the cast will be reuniting as part of the series premiere of the upcoming E! docuseries Reunion Road Trip.
The unscripted series will follow staged reunions from multiple past shows. The series will have cast members reminisce, update viewers on their current lives, and even revisit old iconic locations from each specific series. The Jersey Shore cast is expected to discuss how their stint in reality television changed their own lives, as well as pop culture in general.
Jersey Shore ran on MTV from 2009-2012. Throughout its six season run, the series followed a group of “guidos/guidettes” as they shared a house in New Jersey and in later later seasons in Miami and Italy. While the series was criticized by many for an inaccurate portrayal of New Jersey locals, the show is an iconic part of reality television pop culture.
Rumors surrounding the reunion began when cast members were spotted earlier this month at their old stomping ground of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Cast member Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino spoke with Entertainment Tonight to confirm that the reunion is happening and that he will be part of it. “There definitely is a reunion-style situation coming,” he revealed. “I mean, 100%. Everyone is just so excited to be working together again.”
Entertainment Tonight also reported that original cast members Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Pauly D, and Deena Cortese are all confirmed to appear in the reunion. The production team at E! plans to bring the Jersey Shore cast back to many places they once were regulars at back when they spent time at Seaside Heights. While the reunion is only being filmed as one episode for the upcoming reunion-based series, the cast is currently in talks for a reboot series.
Jersey Shore may have ended years ago, but Sorrentino stated that the cast still keeps in touch, so the reunion should be anything by awkward. “We are on this giant group [text] chat,” he said. “It’s probably the best group chat you’d ever want to see. All day, every day just fooling around and saying what we want to do next.”
Reunion Road Trip does not yet have an official premiere date, though TMZ reported that the pilot featuring the cast of Jersey Shore is expected to air in August.
