Jermaine Clement (Moana) explained in an interview with EW that he will not be returning to collaborate on season 3 of What We Do In the Shadows, according to Screenrant. Clement wrote for the first two seasons of the mockumentary series, and did not give a specific reason for his exit, but said he “will not be in the writers room,” according to Screenrant.
What We Do the Shadows premiered in 2019 and the series surrounds the lives of four vampires living together in an apartment in Staten Island, based around the film under the same name by Clement and Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit). The series stars Kayvan Novak (Four Lions) as Nandor, Matt Berry (Toast of London) as Laszlo, Natasia Demetriou (The Festival) as Nadja, Harvey Guillén (The Internship) as Guillermo, and Mark Proksch (Drunk History) as Colin Robinson. Since its premiere the show has been nominated for 2 Primetime Emmys, including D.J. Stipsen for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour).
With a 94 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 100 percent rating for season 2, it is no surprise the series has been renewed for season 3. Clement in 2018 signed on as creator to adapt the original 2014 New Zealand film of the same name to a U.S. comedy and horror series.
FX aired the season 2 finale June 11, with no news on a season 3 premiere date.
