Kenneth Mitchell, most notably known for his roles on the series Jericho and Star Trek: Discovery, passed away on Saturday. According to TVLine, the news of his passing was announced on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account. Mitchell was 49.
The actor passed away as the result of a five-year battle with ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a nervous system condition that weakens muscles and impacts physical function.
TVLine notes that GoFundMe link was posted to Mitchell’s X account Sunday, acknowledging Mitchell’s wishes that any gifts “be directed toward ALS research or in support of his children.”
“Ken loved his work and cherished his friends — so many of whom he’d been close with since childhood — but he lived for Susan and their children, Lilah and Kallum, who truly owned his heart. This Go Fund Me is for them,” reads the GoFundMe post.
Mitchell has been in various series and films during his career. He got his starting role in 2001 with the drama series Leap Years. In 2006, he starred as Eric Green, Jake Green’s brother, whom Skeet Ulrich (Scream, The Craft) portrayed in the CBS drama series Jericho until 2008.
He then went on to star as Tenavik, Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha and Aurellio in Star Trek: Discovery for Paramount+ from 2017 through 2021. TVLine also notes that Mitchell voiced numerous characters in a 2020 Star Trek: Lower Decks episode.
As per TVLine, Mitchell also appeared in slew of episodes for different series such as Lie to Me, Odyssey 5, Ghost Whisperer, Grey’s Anatomy, Switched at Birth, Bones, NCIS: Los Angeles, Hawaii Five-O, Nancy Drew and The Astronaut Wives Club, just to name a few. He also has several film works such as Miracle, Blood Honey, Home of the Giants and Captain Marvel.
