According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-winning star Jeremy Allen White (The Birthday Cake, The Rental) has joined the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu. White will be voicing Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt who originally appeared in the animated film The Clone Wars.
White is known for his roles in Hulu’s The Bear as Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, Showtime’s Shameless as Lip Gallagher and the wrestling film Iron Claw as Kerry Von Erich.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Mandalorian & Grogu is the first Star Wars feature since the debut of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The new film is based on Disney+’s The Mandalorian which currently has three seasons on the streamer. The series’ success led to the creation of the film scheduled to premiere on May 22, 2026. Series showrunner Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Skeleton Crew) will be directing the new film.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is being produced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park, Signs) and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni (Ahsoka, Star Wars: The Bad Batch).
The mandalorian follows the story of a bounty hunter who travels through the outer reaches of the galaxy. During his travels, he is tasked to retrieve a child for the Imperial forces. Instead of handing the child over he decides to protect the young one and then sets off with him on a quest through out the universe.
White joins Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, Game of Thrones) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien Resurrection, Avatar: The Way of Water) in the film who is also part of The Mandalorian. In the series, Pascal plays the role of The Mandalorian. Other cast members have yet to be announced at this time.
