

According to Deadline,Jennifer Aniston (Friends, The Morning Show) shared that she quickly connected with Jennette McCurdy (iCarly, Sam & Cat) while preparing to play the author’s mother in the upcoming Apple TV+ project. adaptation of I’m Glad My Mom Died. The Friends alum revealed that their early conversations revealed unexpected similarities between their upbringings.
Deadline reported that the Emmy-winning actress explained that she and McCurdy bonded over their shared experiences growing up with difficult mothers. “We had very similar moms,” Aniston told People, adding that the project immediately caught her attention once it reached her desk. She will both star in and executive produce the ten-episode series, which McCurdy co-created with Ari Katcher (Ramy, Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show).
According to Deadline, McCurdy’s 2022 book, which details her past as a former child performer and her tumultuous connection with her late mother, earned a #1 New York Times bestseller upon release. Her mother died in 2013. The memoir, which began as McCurdy’s one-woman stage show, serves as the basis for the new series.
The dramedy, produced by Apple Studios, will follow a young actress as she navigates fame and a dysfunctional family dynamic with her dominating mother, played by Aniston. The project is being developed in partnership with Sharon Horgan’s (Bad Sisters) Merman Productions and LuckyChap Entertainment (Barbie). According to Deadline, Aniston said she felt honored and excited to take part in the series, calling it “a wonderful opportunity” and “a story worth telling.”
Aniston also applauded McCurdy’s efforts, calling her writing “beautifully honest” and her narrative “inspiring.” “The fact that she became the person she is after living that life is nothing short of remarkable,” the actress remarked.
With production expected to begin later this year, I’m Glad My Mom Died marks Aniston’s latest collaboration with Apple TV+, following her work on The Morning Show. For McCurdy, the series represents a major step into writing and producing after stepping away from acting. According to Deadline, the project aims to balance humor and heartbreak while offering an unflinching look at fame, family, and recovery.
