Jeff Garlin, best known for his roles in The Goldbergs and Curb Your Enthusiasm, has joined the cast of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever for its fourth and final season, according to Deadline. This marks Garlin’s first casting since leaving ABC’s The Goldbergs in December 2021 following HR investigations into his on-set behavior. His character, Murray, was written out of the show in between seasons and referenced in the season ten premiere.
Produced by Universal Television and co-created by Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, The Office) and Lang Fisher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mindy Project), Never Have I Ever is a coming-of-age comedy about the challenges faced by Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Turning Red). Fisher serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Kaling, Howard Klein (The Office), and David Miner (30 Rock) of 3 Arts Entertainment.
The upcoming season will focus on the senior year of protagonist Devi as she navigates the complexities of being a first-generation Indian American teenager. Garlin will portray Len, a kind man who runs a sandwich shop and makes Devi’s Grandmother, Nirmala (Ranjita Chakravarty, Bicycle Bride) reconsider her decision to give up on relationships.
It has been confirmed that a wedding will take place in the next season of Never Have I Ever, leaving fans to speculate about which character will walk down the aisle. While Devi’s grandmother is a potential candidate, there are several other possible brides to consider. Devi’s widowed mother, Dr. Nalini Vishwakumar (Poorna Jagannathan, Delhi Belly), will be introduced to a new love interest played by Ivan Hernandez (The Good Wife), and her cousin Kamala Nandiwadal (Richa Moorjani, Hot Mess Holliday) has been in a serious relationship with English teacher Manish Kulkarni (Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ghosts). Additionally, wild cards like Eleanor Wong (Ramona Young, Santa Clarita Diet) and Trent Harrison (Benjamin Norris, WTF!) could also be in the running. The identity of the bride will be revealed when the season airs in 2023.
In addition to his role on Never Have I Ever, Garlin also plays Jeff Greene in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, which concluded its eleventh season in 2021 and was renewed for a twelfth season in August of this year. It is currently unknown if Garlin will continue to be a part of the show. His other television credits include Arrested Development, Everybody Loves Raymond, Mad About You, and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Never Have I Ever was renewed for a fourth and final season in April of this year, and is set to begin streaming on Netflix in 2023.
