This years Mark Twain Prize for American Humor will go to former Tonight Show Jay Leno.
According to Deadline, the 17th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor will take place on October 19 as the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. The ceremony is taped and broadcast on PBS on November 23. Leno was the previous host of The Tonight Show. In March he was inducted to TV Academy’s Hall of Fame and in April a street on Universal Studios had astreet named for him. Last year the honor went to Carol Burnett.
“Like Mark Twain, Jay Leno has offered us a lifetime’s worth of humorous commentary on American daily life,” David Rubenstein, Kennedy Center chairman said. “For both men, no one was too high or too low to escape their wit, and we are all the better for it.”
