According to TVLine, Disney+ has just cast Jay Duplass (Industry, The Chair) and Timothy Omundson (the Psych franchise, Galavant) as Greek gods in the upcoming series adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Duplass and Omundson are the latest to join the star-studded cast of Percy Jackson, including such other talents as Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth, The Good Place), Megan Mullally (Parks and Recreation, Bob’s Burgers), and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights).
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an adaptation of the first book from the beloved fantasy novel series of the same name by author Rick Riordan (Daughter of the Deep, The Red Pyramid). The story revolves around the titular character of Percy Jackson, a twelve-year old demigod who is accused by the Greek god Zeus of stealing his mythical lightning bolt, prompting the young Percy to embark on a cross-country journey with the help of his two best friends in order to find the missing bolt and prove his innocence.
As written by TVLine, Duplass is set to portray Hades, the bitter and distrustful god of the Underworld who is also Percy’s uncle, while Omundson will portray Hephaestus the cynical and pragmatic god of blacksmiths. The streaming adaptation of Percy Jackson comes from series creators Jonathan E. Steinberg (The Old Man, Human Target) and Dan Shotz (Black Sails, National Treasure). The two men will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers for the series, alongside Riordan, Monica Owusu-Breen (Lost, Revolution), James Bobin (The Muppets, Dora and the Lost City of Gold), and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (the Maze Runner trilogy, My Best Friend’s Exorcism) to name only a few.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to premiere sometime in 2024 with the first season consisting of eight episodes.
