The Red Road, Sundance Channel’s newest original series, has found one of its lead actors. Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Stargate Atlantis) has joined the series in a central role.
Formerly titled The Descendants, The Red Road tells the story of a sheriff who is struggling to keep the peace both in his family and between two clashing communities. The people of the small town where he grew up are at odds with the nearby Ramapo Mountain Indians; when a tragedy occurs involving the sheriff’s wife, however, “an unholy alliance is forged between the sheriff and a dangerous member of the tribe that will come back to haunt all involved.”
Momoa will portray Philip Kopus, an important member of the Ramapo Indian tribe.
Sundance Channel’s second original series will consist of six one-hour episodes, and will be executive produced by Aaron Guzikowski, Sarah Condon and Bridget Carpenter. The premiere date has not yet been announced.
