Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a new spy thriller series titled Disavowed, starring James Marsden (Your Friends & Neighbors, Jury Duty, X-men) in the lead role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series comes from Iron Man writers Art Marcum (Iron Man, Uncharted, Transformers: The Last Knight) and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Uncharted, Transformers: The Last Knight) and marks the duo’s first television series together. Along with the series being picked up, Apple has also confirmed that the project will be produced by Apple Studios and Blue Marble Pictures, expanding the streamer’s growing lineup of original thriller programming to their platform.
Disavowed will follow legendary CIA case officer Brad Griffin, played by Marsden. Griffin is abruptly fired while pursuing an assassin responsible for killing one of his colleagues, ultimately becoming disgraced and pushed out of the intelligence community. Griffin then decides to track down the assassin himself once a $15 million federal bounty is placed on their head.
Marcum and Holloway will executive produce the series alongside Tom Spezialy (The Leftovers, Desperate Housewives, Watchmen), Marsden, and Blue Marble Pictures’ Theresa Kang (Bedford Park, Pachinko) and Caroline Garity (Bedford Park, Pachinko). Marcum and Holloway are best known for co-writing Marvel’s 2008 Iron Man, which helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with projects such as Uncharted. The pair have primarily worked in film throughout their careers, making Disavowed their first major television project together.
Marsden currently stars in Apple TV+’s Your Friends & Neighbors and has recently appeared in projects including Hulu’s Paradise and Amazon Prime Video’s comedy series Jury Duty. He is also expected to reprise his role as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday later this year.
Apple has not yet announced a release date or additional casting information for Disavowed. However more details about the series are expected in the coming months.
