DC Studios has new show and movie releases, but they are still not canon in this new DC Universe. That points out that the shows and movies created by James Gunn, such as Peacemaker, Superman, and Creature Commandos, are not connected at all in the same universe. Specifically, Gunn stated that the first season of the show isn’t canon, but the second season will be, Comicbook.com reports.
According to Comicbook.com, the director revealed the news on Threads post, specifically in response to a fan’s comment where he said that season two of Peacemaker will be taking place after what happened in Superman. Gunn spoke about the events of the sophomore outing in Peacemaker, stating “Season one isn’t canon but no,” as he was asked by a fan on Threads if both seasons take place after Superman.
Gunn, according to Comicbook.com, has kept the plot of the upcoming second season of Peacemaker a secret from the press, but the director has made fans feel at ease by saying that the first season’s plot won’t be hard to keep up with.
Gunn shared on another Threads post more statements about the upcoming season, via ComicBook.com. He stated, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos [in 2024] — a sort of aperitif to the DCU — and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.”
Gunn continued to explain it all in further details, via Comicbook.com. He stated, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until [Creature Commandos] and Legacy.”
The first season of Peacemaker is now streaming on Max.
