James Earl Jones Returns As The Voice Of Darth Vader In ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

It was revealed in the latest episode of Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, that James Earl Jones (The Lion King) would be continuing his legendary role as the voice of Darth Vader. It was previously not announced as to whether Jones would continue in the role in the show, although it had been revealed before the series debuted that the character of Vader would be making appearances with Hayden Christensen (Jumper) playing Vader’s body.

The 91-year old actor has been the voice of Darth Vader since the release of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, in 1977. He has voiced the character in all the subsequent films in which Vader has appeared in, including Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker. He has also voiced Vader in the spinoff film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as well as the animated spinoff series, Star Wars: Rebels.

In the latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Christensen and Jones’ Vader is obsessed with hunting down Kenobi, played by Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting), who is his former master while Vader was still known as the Jedi Knight, Anakin Skywalker.

Jones’ legendary career, which began in the 1950s, includes voicing and playing characters in many films outside of the Star Wars franchise including roles in Coming To America, The Sandlot, and The Lion King, in which he played the iconic character, Mufasa.

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars McGregor, Christensen, Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Rupert Friend (Homeland), Joel Edgerton (The Gift), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Indira Varma (For Life), O’Shea Jackson Jr (Straight Outta Compton), Bonnie Piesse (The Vow), Sung Kang (Fast & Furious), Simone Kessell (Pine Gap), Benny Safdie (Good Time), and Vivien Lyra Blair (We Can Be Heroes).
