Jake McDorman (The Right Stuff) has joined the cast of the upcoming drama, Mrs. Davis, which will be streaming exclusively on Peacock, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is being co-written by Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Tara Hernandez (The Big Bang Theory) and has also already casted Betty Gilpin (GLOW).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock describes this upcoming drama series as an exploration of faith vs. technology which shows an epic battle of biblical and binary proportions. McDorman will play Gilpin’s rebellious ex, who also has a personal vendetta against the Algorithm. Gilpin will play a nun who goes to battle against an all-powerful Artificial Intelligence.
Hernandez will serve as the drama’s showrunner and will also executive produce Mrs. Davis. Other executive producers include Lindelof, Eugene Kelly (Westworld), and Owen Harris (Black Mirror: San Junipero). Harris will also direct multiple episodes for the upcoming series including the pilot episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Susan Rovner (Gossip Girl) developed the series, which was ordered in May 2021, during her tenure at Warner Bros. TV and before she left the studio to become Chairman of Entertainment Content at NBCUniversal’s TV and streaming department. In addition to developing the series, Rovner had the rare opportunity to also acquire Mrs. Davis as a buyer as her prior history with the project helped Peacock beat out other networks and streaming services for the upcoming show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
McDorman will next be seen in the Paramount+ comedy film, Jerry and Marge Go Large, which is set to be released on June 17th, and in FX’s upcoming drama series, Class of ’09. The actor also has a recurring role on FX’s What We Do in the Shadows. Mrs. Davis marks a reunion for McDorman with Lindelof, after he appeared in the episode titled “This Extraordinary Being” of HBO’s Watchmen, which Lindelof is a producer for.
