Although there are no concrete answers to the question of whether or not the series Minx will be renewed, there are signs that the show may be coming to a close. Deadline has recently reported that leading man Jake Johnson (New Girl) has shared comments regarding the return of the series and the likelihood of that happening.
During a conversation with Deadline, Johnson described the series’ cancellation and then renewal as “brutal,” and went on to share his thoughts on the logistics and timing of the series.
“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” he said to Deadline. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.” Following this, Johnson joked about the fact that his hair does not reflect the era of the 1970s (the decade in which the series takes place) anymore as he had cut it all off to ease back into a more modern look. This was just another hint that the series would not be making a return.
Minx was a series about the feminist influence that began to seep into erotic magazines. According to Deadline, the show’s official longline states, “Minx is set in 1970s Los Angeles and centers around Joyce, an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women.” Season one and two of Minx are available to stream on Starz.
“I really loved the cast and the crew and the writers,” Johnson stated in closing via Deadline. “It was a great group, but I don’t know.”
