Variety is the first to officially announce the popular 1990s sci-fi film Stargate, is now currently being developed as a TV series for Amazon MGM Studios. With Schaeffer set to develop the series, her accolades and recognized sci-fi background can bring in a wave of new fans to the Stargate franchise. Her work on WandaVision alone made the show the most-watched series for Disney+, back in 2021. The show received over ninety award nominations, including the most-nominated limited series for the 23rd Primetime Emmy Awards. Marvel Studios had also won their first ever Emmy award with WandaVision.
Schaeffer is also credited to be the executive producer of VisionQuest, a spin-off to WandaVision, starring actor Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Wimbledon) as Vision and actor James Spader (The Blacklist, Boston Legal) as Ultron. VisionQuest is premiering October 14th.

Stargate is an epic sci-fi military action-adventure film that premiered back in October 28, 1994. In the film, Stargate is a ring shaped device that has a portal that can travel through space to a different planet. The gate is protected in an underground military base, unknown to society. The story follows the adventures of U.S Air Force Colonel Jack O’Neil, played by Kurt Russell (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, The Thing), and with Dr. Daniel Jackson, played by Spader, as they enter the portal themselves, along with their crew on a top-secret military mission.
Stargate was directed by Roland Emmerich (Godzilla, Independence Day). The hit sci-fi movie made over $196 million in box office sales. After the global success of the original Stargate film, the show Stargate SG-1 was created. Stargate SG-1 was a 1997 television sequel to the 1994 film, created by Brad Wright (Children of the Gods, Travelers) and Jonathan Glassner (Mikey, Island City). The show had a decade-long run, starring Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver, MacGruber) as Colonel Jack O’Neill, replacing Russel’s O’Neil, and Michael Shanks (Saving Hope, Arctic Blast) as Dr. Daniel Jackson, replacing as Dr. Daniel Jackson of the original film.
Stargate was announced in the past to be developed with Martin Gero (Blindspot, Keep Breathing), but was ultimately cancelled by Amazon MGM Studios previously instead. The project was abruptly cancelled this past June during production, so long-time fans of Stargate franchise will be excited to hear now that it’s officially back in development.
