J.R. Ramirez Cast as Series Regular for ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2

Entertainment Weekly has reported that J.R. Ramirez has been cast in the next season of the Netflix Marvel series Jessica Jones. The actor, best known for his roles on shows such as Power and Arrow, is set to play series regular Oscar, a new character who moves into Jessica Jones’ (played by Krysten Ritter) apartment building. The character of Oscar is a single father who works as the new superintendent in the building.

Jessica Jones’ executive producer Melissa Rosenberg had high praise for Ramirez in her official statement on the casting news. “J.R. is an incredible addition to our cast, bringing complex and subtle emotion and humor,” the executive producer said. “He exudes warmth, edge and intelligence, and blends perfectly with our tone.”

It’s been reported that Leah Gibson will also join Ramirez as a new series regular for the show’s second season. Gibson (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will play a character named Ingrid, described as a street-wise nurse.

Season 1 of Jessica Jones hit Netflix back in 2015 to high critical praise, with the series considered not only one of the streaming service’s strongest Marvel series, but one of the strongest Netflix original series as whole. Jessica Jones was renewed for its second season early last year, though not much is known in terms of plot details for Season 2.

Though Season 2 of Jessica Jones is not expected to arrive on Netflix until 2018, fans can catch more of Ritter’s sarcastic superhero in The Defenders, which will debut August 18 on Netflix.
