Issa Rae Reveals Fans’ Outcry for ‘Insecure’ Finale Reshoot: People Are Furious

According to an article via Deadline Though Issa Rae’s (The Lovebirds, Little) hit HBO dramedy Insecure wrapped its final episode in late 2021, fans still remain divided over its conclusion. The show, which aired from 2016 to 2021, followed Issa Dee (Rae) navigating the complexities of love, friendship, and identity in Los Angeles. In the finale, Issa rekindles her romance with Jay Ellis (The Photograph, Boomerang) who plays Lawrence who a decision that angered some viewers, particularly after his character fathered a child with another woman, Christina Elmore (The Haves and the Have Nots, The Last O.G.) who plays Condola.

Rae opened up about the backlash in a recent interview with People and Deadline chose to acknowledge that Rae quoted “people are really mad about” how the show ended. Some fans were so upset with Issa’s decision that they even asked for a reshoot of the finale. “People have told me to reshoot, which is crazy because they didn’t like the decision that Issa makes in the end,” Rae admitted. Despite the controversy, the Rap Sh!t executive producer made it clear that there are no plans to revisit the series anytime soon.

In the wake of Insecure’s conclusion, fans continue to express their desire for more content, with many asking for a sixth season. In fact, Rae shared that she was bombarded with such requests even after her Twitter account was hacked on January 30.

“I got hacked this morning. Unfortunately, I fell for whatever phishing scams,” Rae shared, noting that someone even joked about needing more seasons of Insecure in exchange for helping her recover her account. Despite these persistent demands, Rae emphasized that she has no intention of revisiting the world of Issa Dee.

The ending of Insecure came with its own set of pressures, as Rae reflected during her appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “All the pressure — this was terrifying. Because you’re ending a show and people are gonna have their opinions,” Rae said, acknowledging the challenge of meeting audience expectations. Fans frequently expressed their hopes that Insecure would not end the same way Game of Thrones did, a finale that left many viewers frustrated with its conclusion.

As for Rae, she’s focused on new ventures, with the ongoing success of Rap Sh!t and her rising career as a media mogul.
