TVLine is reporting that the creative minds behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are preparing their finale to end the season…or the series.
“We are in process [of writing the finale],” noted co-showrunner Jed Whedon to TVLine at the show’s Episode 100 celebration. He also elaborated, “Yeah, we’re ready for if this is the end. We’re definitely going to make it rewarding either way.”
Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) hasn’t alluded to anything but did retweet an article from ComicBook.com about this possibility. Ming-Na Wen on the other hand, has been tweeting the heck out of celebrating the 100th episode.

In its move to the Friday night timeslot, Agents has averaged 2.3 million viewers ending last in audience only ahead of Once Upon A Time which is also completing its final season. The show gains a few numbers in the Live+7 DVR playback category.
The speculation surrounding a possible end to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes from the lack of a commitment by the network for another season…which can be due to the lower ratings. Until the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. is revealed, fans can look forward to next week’s Big 100th episode. Whedon promises the March 9th episode to be a “game changer.”
