‘Interview With the Vampire’s Sam Reid Says Lestat Will “Never Get Over” Major Character’s Fate

The heartbreaking penultimate episode of AMC’s Interview With The Vampire’s second season saw Louis, portrayed by Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who), and Claudia, portrayed by  Delainey Hayles (Too Close, Holby City), standing trial for their crimes against Lestat, portrayed by Sam Reid (Lambs of God, The News Reader). As noted by Comicbook.com, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reid mournfully stated that the epidoes’s outcome is one neither he nor Lestat would ever get over.

Spoilers below for Interview with the Vampire Season 2, Episode 7: “I Could Not Prevent It”.

In this week’s episode, the Theatre des Vampires holds a murder trial scripted as a play. Louis and Claudia, as well as Madeline, portrayed by French-Austrian actress Roxane Duran (The White Ribbon, Riviera), are all three held responsible for crimes against the coven and the alleged attempted murder of Reid’s de Lioncourt. Ultimately, all are found guilty of violating several of the Great Laws. While Louis received the lesser punishment of banishment, Claudia and Madeline were tragically sentenced to death. The child vampire and her new companion are burned to ash by a skylight on the theater’s roof. As she takes her final breath, Claudia looks back to Lestat one last time.

Reid described the effect of this loss on Lestat to EW, emphasizing how difficult it will be to say goodbye to costar Hayles as well as the character of Claudia.

“It’s heartbreaking because Lestat and Claudia, they had so much potential to be just the most beautiful kind of pairing,” Reid explained via EW. They’re so similar, and I think it’s so heartbreaking that it just never happened. He’s never going to get over it.”

Despite this being the end of Claudia’s story, Reid has conjured up a way Hayles could return if the series gets renewed for a third season. Just as Louis saw visions of Lestat, he could see Claudia’s ghost.

“I really hope, should we continue, that she haunts him, because I just love Delainey so much,” Reid said via EW.

Fans of the hit vampire series can catch the season two finale on Sunday, June 30th at 9 PM ET on AMC.
