‘Interview With the Vampire’s Sam Reid Says Lestat Will “Never Get Over” Major Character’s Fate

Spoilers below for Interview with the Vampire Season 2 Episode 7: “I Could Not Prevent It”.

The heartbreaking penultimate episode of the hit American gothic horror television series’ second season saw Louis, portrayed by Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who) and Claudia, formerly played by Bailey Bass (Avatar: The Way of Water, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) in the series’ first season and Delainey Hayles (Too Close, Holby City) in the current second season, standing trial for their crimes against Lestat, portrayed by Sam Reid (Lambs of God, The News Reader). According to Comicbook.com, this episode marked the return of Lestat, finally reappearing in the flesh rather than as a hallucination or ghost as he has appeared thus far this season.

As noted by Comicbook.com, in an interview with ScreenRant, Reid mournfully stated that the outcome of the episode is one that neither he nor Lestat would ever get over, haunting him forever.

In this week’s episode, a show trial, which was scripted as a play at the Theatre des Vampires, Louis and Claudia, as well as Madeline, portrayed by French-Austrian actress Roxane Duran (The White Ribbon, Riviera), were ultimately all found guilty of violating several of the Great Laws. While Louis received the lesser punishment of banishment, Claudia and Madeline were tragically sentenced to death. As she was escorted to a crypt, where she is destined to die a slow death of starvation, Claudia looks back to Lestat one last time. Reid described the effect of this loss on Lestat to ScreenRant, emphasizing how difficult it will be to say goodbye to co-star Hayles as well as the character of Claudia.

According to Comicbook.com, Reid told ScreenRant, “Delainey’s so fantastic, and Claudia is such a brilliant character… I don’t think Lestat’s ever really going to get over the fact that she does — nor am I.”

Fans of the hit vampire series can catch the season 2 finale on Sunday, June 30th at 9 PM ET on AMC.
