Following on the heels of Comedy Bang! Bang!‘s surprise cancellation this morning, Amy Schumer has spoken out about the future of her own Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer.
According to TVline.com, rumors began circulating about the future (an possible demise) of the acclaimed sketch show as the actress posted this on Twitter last night, in response to a controversy surrounding a onetime writer of Inside Amy Schumer, Kurt Metzler:
Fans of both Ms. Schumer and the show were sent into a confusing whirlwind after this Tweet as they struggled to understand the implication. The complexity of the quote “We are making the show anymore” clearly stuck out to the fans, and they rushed to the Internet to check the status of Schumer’s show, many showing support by replying to her Tweet with encouraging messages.
Thankfully, the mystery was cleared up as Ms. Schumer Tweeted a clarification of her post a few hours later:
It appears that Inside Amy Schumer still has the full support of Comedy Central backing them, which is always helpful to have as news of cancellations begin to trickle in. The immediate future of the show is unknown, as Amy has explained that she has many projects that are currently filling her time. However, the show has been granted a slate for season five, but the precise date of that season is not on the horizon as of this moment.
Currently, the actress/writer/director has been in the process of publishing her first book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, which has hit the US bookstands as recently as August 16. In a similar acerbic yet intellectual viewpoint as Inside Amy Schumer, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo tackles the events of Amy Schumer’s personal life, as well as several other pressing issues for society today, all while continuing to bring her humorous slant to such topics.
Ms. Schumer went on to Tweet that she will be pursuing more writing (the specific kind of writing was not specified, as she has written for TV and film, in addition to her new book) in the coming year, as well as continuing to work on her standup.
Whatever the reason is, there will still be a hole to fill in our Comedy Central lineup. With the cancellation of Comedy Bang! Bang! and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, can we count on their other shows to pick up the comedy slack?
