Following the attacks on HBO earlier this month, hackers have now leaked episodes from shows such as Insecure and Ballers, along with several brand new, unaired episodes of the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story Sunday afternoon.
On the first of this month, hackers stole data as well as episodes of Ballers, Room 104, and Game of Thrones. Last week’s Game of Thrones episode, “Spoils of War”, was also leaked a couple of days before the episode aired on August 6, although HBO claimed this was an unrelated incident to the attack on August 1.
The hackers have been slowly releasing material throughout August, with the latest incident resulting in a hoard of leaked episodes. The shows Insecure, Ballers, Barry, The Deuce, and Curb Your Enthusiasm all fell victim to the most recent leak. Game of Thrones was notably absent off of this list.
HBO made a swift response to the hacker’s continued actions and released an official statement. “We are not in communication with the hacker and we’re not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released,” the premiere cable network stood firm. “It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That’s a game we’re not going to participate in.” The statement concluded with the assurance that, “This incident has not deterred us from ensuring HBO continues to do what we do best.”
In a series of emails leaked by hackers earlier this week, HBO reportedly offered a large ransom of $250,000 to those who infiltrated the network’s security in efforts to negotiate the issue. HBO did not comment on these emails. The network has said it is working with private cybersecurity firms and the FBI to catch the hackers.
