‘I’m Dying Up Here’ Set to Premiere at SXSW 2017

Deadline announced that Showtime’s new series I’m Dying Up Here is set to premiere at SXSW on Wednesday, March 15.

I’m Dying Up Here, Showtime’s latest drama, is centered around the pinnacle of 1970s standup in Hollywood, California. The ’70s were a crucial time in the days of standup, as famous comedians such as Richard Pryor, David Letterman, and Jay Leno finally found their spotlight. The decade also saw fierce competition between comics as they struggled to gain nationwide attention, especially for performances on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show.

The drama is based on the non-fiction title of the same name. While William Knoedelseder originally penned I’m Dying Up Here, the pilot was written by Dave Flebotte, who also created and executive produces the series. Jim Carrey, Christina Wayne, and Michael Aguilar will also executive produce.

The first episode will be screened at 11:30am, and a Q&A will follow the first showing. Ari Graynor, Andrew Santino, Melissa Leo, Al Madrigal, Erik Griffin, and Michael Aguilar are all scheduled to be among the panel.

Additionally, SXSW and Showtime will showcase I’m Dying Up Here in a different manner. Following the panel, there will be the I’m Dying Up Here experience at the Showtime House at Clive Bar. The experience is complete with music from bands such as Bleached and The Relationship, but the cast and audience alike will also take in the groovy ’70s tunes set by Grandmaster Flash as they enjoy the full experience.

I’m Dying Up Here will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, June 4.
