Ilana Glazer (Broad City, Babes) is plotting her return to television with a new project that draws inspiration from the iconic Sex and the City. According to Deadline, Glazer is developing a comedy series that delves into the friendship between a ” gay guy and woman”.
According to Deadline,Glazer revealed the project on the Dinner’s On Me podcast.
“I’m writing a show right now. I’m doing a rewrite actually of this draft right now; it’s like Sex and the City with two women and two gay guys.” she said via Deadline. “Cause the woman and gay guy friendship is a big deal. My first best friend is my brother, [who is a] gay guy. All of my best friends growing up were gay boys. I want it to be them”.
According to Deadline, Glazer’s first series, Broad City, began as a web series with co-star Abbi Jacobson (No Good Deed, 6 Ballons ) before it was picked up by Comedy Central. With executive producer Amy Poehler (Sisters, Mean Girls) attached, the series ran for five seasons from 2009-2011.
Broad City follows two best friends, Ilana and Abbi, as they navigate their chaotic lives in New York City. The series is known for its hilarious and often absurd take on millennial struggles, from low-paying jobs and dating mishaps to wild city adventures and deep female friendships. Ilana is the carefree, rebellious, and unapologetically outrageous half of the duo, while Abbi is slightly more responsible but still gets caught up in ridiculous situations. Their friendship is at the heart of the show, making Broad City a beloved and relatable comedy for many viewers.
Glazer’s previous work on Broad City received critical acclaim for its authentic portrayal of millennial life in the city. Fans anticipate that this new venture will continue to explore themes of identity, ambition, and the intricacies of urban living.
