Idris Elba (Luther, Hobbs & Shaw) has been tapped on by Apple TV+ to lead a new thriller series, Hijack, via Deadline. The series will be written by George Kay (Lupin), and it is a part of Elba’s Green Door Pictures’ first-look deal with the streamer which was first announced in July 2020.
The seven-part series will follow Sam Nelson (Elba), a business negotiator forced to use his skills to save the lives of passengers on a hijacked plane heading to London. The series will be written by Kay with Jim Field Smith (Criminal: UK) directing. The two have previously worked on the Criminal franchise together. They will also serve as executive producers.
Elba will also serve as executive producer for the series. His recent credits include Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as Knuckles and Hobbs & Shaw. Some recent productions by Green Door Pictures include Idris Elba: Flight School, Turn Up Charlie, and The Long Run. Green Door also has a joint venture deal with Archery Pictures Ink, which was formed back in July 2021, and Hijack will be produced under this deal.
Hijack will be one of a number of thrillers coming to Apple TV+, including Severance, Shining Girls, and Disclaimer.
