When the reboot of iCarly was shockingly announced last December, fans expected that it was the first of many surprises to come for the unexpected show. The fans were right as the first trailer for the show pulled out a few gasp inducing moments. From former cast members’ cameos to a special four letter word from Jerry Trainor’s Spencer, the first trailer had everything.
Via Deadline, the nostalgic reboot brings back Miranda Cosgrove (Drake and Josh), Nathan Kress (Into the Storm), and Jerry Trainor (Wendell and Vinnie) to play Carly, Freddie, and Spencer. The show also adds two new characters, Carly’s new roommate, Harper, played by Laci Mosley (Insecure), and Freddie’s step daughter, Millicent, played by Jaidyn Triplett (See). The story is set around Cosgrove’s Carly trying to traverse life in her 20’s including social media.
The trailer gives audiences a few more clues as to what will be happening in the show’s thirteen episode season. The return of fan favorites Principal Franklin, played by Tim Russ (American Horror Story), and Mrs. Benson, played by Mary Scheer (Bunk’d), is a welcome addition to the already stellar cast. On the flip side, enemies of Carly throughout the show’s run, Neville Papperman and Nora Dershlit, played by Reed Alexander (Sam & Cat) and Danielle Morrow (Kenny), return to cause more trouble for Carly.
Another welcome surprise for fans of the show is the shift in the tone of the trailer from the show it is rebooting. The show seems to have matured as the fans of the original run of iCarly have. Jerry Trainor’s Spencer lets a curse word fly early in the trailer showing this show is different from its predecessor.
The reboot of iCarly will continue to let surprises fly this summer as it premieres June 17th only on Paramount+.
