According to Deadline, Téa Leoni (Madam Secretary. Fun with Dick and Jane) was added to the cast of Only Murders in the Building on Hulu for its fifth season. Leoni will play the wife of Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, Sofia Caccimelio, and will be shown toward the end of the season four’s finale. Deadline interviewed the co-creator of the show John Hoffman (The Emoji Movie, Northern Lights), where he discusses Leoni’s addition to the show, a potential crossover and more. There will be spoilers towards the end of this article, so please proceed with caution.

“I think she’s the great tease at the end of the finale and a little bit of an intriguing bump forward,” Hoffman informs Deadline. “She’s an extension of the little news report in Episode 9 that Mabel makes note of at the hospital. [Sofia] is the wife of the Dry Cleaning King of Brooklyn, and maybe a couple of dry cleaning outlets in Manhattan, as well, we may come to know.”

“But beyond that, it’s a world opened up potentially that we haven’t talked about too much yet in New York, so she holds a lot of intrigue,” he continued.

Deadline asked Hoffman if the Caccimelios have connections to earlier seasons, to which he revealed, “I think there are references to what Oliver [Martin Short] said when he dealt with financing for his shows; so, yeah, there may be some crossover that way. Potentially, some danger could be involved in helping. There are some moves that might come in Season 5 that change the whole equation.”

He went on to discuss themes talked about in the writers room: “We were talking earlier today about what’s New York right now. So there is a classic version of that, and then what does it look like today? That’s intriguing to me.”

Spoiler Alert 

After the death of Doorman Lester, played by Teddy Coluca (The Week Of, Music of the Heart), the theme of a classic New York and today’s Big Apple, will make more sense when audiences view the fifth season. Lester was very informed not only of the city of New York but also of the old buildings, and his presence is now gone. The city will be a reminder of him.
