According to Deadline, Hulu will tell a gripping story in a three-part docuseries about Sarah Pender. In Girl on The Run: The Hunt For America’s Most Wanted Woman, we follow the story of Pender who was convicted to prison for a double murder in the year 2000 and escaped from Rockville Correctional Facility eight years later.
Deadline mentioned that the series tells Pender’s side of the story. When Pender’s boyfriend pleaded guilty to the murders of her roommates, Andrew Cataldi and Tricia Nordman, Pender was sentenced to more than 100 years for her alleged role in the crime. She served her time in a maximum-security prison in Indiana. Then, Pender escaped the prison with the help of a former prisoner who also doubled as a security guard. While on the run with a trusted network of ex-cons and her new boyfriend, she’s finally caught after a neighbor recognized Pender from an episode of America’s Most Wanted.
Deadline stated that the docuseries will premiere on February 19, with an exclusive interview with Pender who claims that she is innocent. There will also be statements from the police that led the pursuit, Pender’s parents, her former boyfriend who is still in prison and former inmates from the Indiana Women’s correctional facility.
According to Deadline, the show is produced by the British production company, Plum Pictures, along with ABC Studios. Plum Pictures and Hulu also produced the show, Mr. & Mrs. Murder. The docuseries will be directed by Sebastian Smith as Stuart Cabb (George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, Little Miss Innocent: Passion, Poison, Prison) and Tom Pearson executive produce. Representing ABC Studios, David Sloan (The Scream Murder: A True Teen Horror Story, Dirty Talk: When Daytime Talk Shows Ruled TV) is the senior executive producer alongside Beth Hoppe (The Scream Murder: A true Teen Horror Story, Little Miss Innocent: Passion, Poison, Prison).
