Hulu has dropped the first teaser trailer for its upcoming horror series Castle Rock, IndieWire reports. The teaser will also be shown during the Super Bowl, but to the delight of Stephen King fans, Hulu decided to release its trailer online a bit earlier.
Castle Rock is based in the Stephen King universe and is inspired by the fictional Maine town of Castle Rock that the popular author has included in many of his novels and short stories. The small Maine town has been featured in such King stories as Cujo, Needful Things, and many others.
The trailer shows off the series’ impressive talent, including cast members André Holland, Sissy Spacek, Terry O’Quinn, Scott Glenn, Bill Skarsgård, Melanie Lynskey, and Jane Levy. The series looks like it will be tense and chilling, with plenty of Stephen King references to boot.
One of the high points of the teaser is when it mentions Shawshank Prison. The brief footage hints that Castle Rock might cover the story of what happens in the infamous prison after the events of Shawshank Redemption.
J.J. Abrams (known for his work writing and directing films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the new Star Trek franchise, as well as producing television shows like Westworld) is executive producer on the series. No writers or directors have been announced as of yet.
Castle Rock will premiere this summer on Hulu.
