Hulu has officially announced that its hit comedy series, Only Murders in the Building, will return for second season on June 28, according to Deadline. The series was renewed for a second season just one month after its debut, in August 2021; it stars Selena Gomez (Monte Carlo), Steve Martin (Cheaper by the Dozen) and Martin Short (The Father of the Bride).
The streamer unveiled the news through a 25-second clip of the three stars comedically attempting to deliver the premiere date announcement without forgetting their lines, laughing or straying from the script. Once they ran out of time, a date appeared on the screen – June 28.
Hulu has been teasing this announcement for days, having posted a picture to Instagram of elevator buttons with the “6,” “2” and “8” buttons lit up. Later in the day, the streamer posted an edited picture of musician Harry Styles’ newly-released album cover for his upcoming album titled “Harry’s House.” Gomez, Short and Martin’s characters had been edited in.
The series followed three strangers – Gomez’s Mabel Mora, Short’s Oliver Putnam and Martin’s Charles-Haden Savage – who are brought together by their common love of true crime podcasts and a suspicious death in their New York apartment building, The Arconia. The group’s obsession leads to them developing a podcast titled “Only Murders in the Building.”
The upcoming second season will reportedly pick up after the unexpected death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger, played by Jayne Houdyshell (The Humans). Throughout the season, the trio will be forced to deal with being suspects in a homicide, finding the true culprit and being the subjects of a competing podcast.
Only Murders in the Building is executive produced by Short, Gomez Dan Fogelman (This Is Us) and Jess Rosenthal (This Is Us).
